Claude Code is Anthropic's terminal-based AI coding agent powered by Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6. It operates directly in your terminal, reading your entire codebase for full-project context, editing multiple files simultaneously, running shell commands, and managing git workflows. Key differentiators include multi-agent capability (spawning parallel agents for independent tasks), the Agent SDK for building custom agents, MCP (Model Context Protocol) for connecting to external tools, and a Unix-philosophy design that pipes into existing workflows. Available as CLI, VS Code extension, JetBrains plugin, and desktop app. Voice mode launched March 2026.
